While many of our projects require shipping a small quantity of samples to one location, CL&D Digital’s shipping team is meeting the growing demand of drop shipping to multiple locations. A supply chain management technique, drop shipping by standard definition means a retailer doesn’t keep products in stock, but instead gives customer orders and shipping instructions to a manufacturer or a wholesaler, who then ships the goods directly to the end customer. This saves the client time and money – and for CL&D Digital, reinforces our branding message of being a total digital package printing solutions provider.
So how do we apply this technique? Instead of sending our client 20 samples, for example, and having he or she keep one and then re-ship the other 19 to counterparts across the country, it’s all done at CL&D. This is also efficient with the shipping of sales kits for sales people to secure shelf space. Some of our biggest drop-shipping jobs have samples going out to a few hundred locations and take a few days to process. Streamlining this process requires great attention to detail. There is some translation on our end from the customer’s spread sheet to the accepted format of the carrier, typically UPS. We also make sure to call ahead so we have enough trucks when the delivery is ready to go.
It’s the little details that count and make a big difference when we work to help our clients get their new product to market fast and first.
